Can You Get Rid Of Skin Wrinkles With Face Lifts And Cosmetic Surgery?

May 16th, 2008 by SurursBlog3403

By nature, we are all destined to age. It is inevitable. One day, we will all have lines and wrinkles in places that are visible and places that are not!

However, modern day technology and cosmetic surgery have provided us all with a means to halt the aging process. One of the main ways that individuals avoid facial wrinkles is the surgical face lift.

A face lift can make us look years younger for much longer than would otherwise be possible, but you can choose the right face lift for you because there is a variety of options.

The surgical face lift became popular on the celebrity circuit in the 1970s and 1980s, but only the most affluent of individuals could afford the procedure. However, the option is open to most individuals today because surgical face lifts are more affordable than ever.

When you look at the difference between face lifts then and now you will see a big improvement in the techniques and methods used.

In the 1980s, facial skin was pulled so tight that people noticed the surgery. There was also much more scarring than today. You could see the former whereas you would need a microscope to see the latter.

There are several types of facelifts and we’ll look at just a few options.

The deep plane face lift began back in the 1980s and it proved that beauty really is skin deep because this procedure could knock ten or more years off of a 40 year old woman. That’s because it gets to the root of the problem, the muscles in the face, which sag as we age. This causes us to loose tone, which then causes the skin to stretch.

As a result too often the skin is blamed for what is actually a muscle problem. This procedure starts by addressing the real problem and tightening the muscles, and then it moves to the surface. The results are very impressive.

Next up is the mini face lift, and this is perfect for individuals in their mid thirties through their mid forties. Regardless of whether you are male or female, this type of face lift will have a revolutionary effect on you because it tightens the muscles and the deep tissue around the face and thus tightens it up nicely.

Despite the work required for this procedure to be successful, there will be very little scarring of the tissue and the recovery time is therefore shorter than other face lifts. However, it only tends to work around your face so the nose and cheeks will remain the same in appearance.

The 1980s was the peak of the surgical face lift’s popularity, but that popularity has waned today. It is still a viable choice for women trying to fend off the aging effects of time.

You should always consult a surgeon before having any procedure done because he or she will be able to advise you as to what would work best for you.

As long as you take the advice that he or she offers, then you can remain youthful and beautiful on the outside as well as the inside indefinitely!

How to Schedule a Book Signing

May 16th, 2008 by SurursBlog3403

How would you like to sell more copies of your book? Would you like to read excerpts from your book to a captivated audience?

Book signings are the cornerstone of an author’s post-publication foundation. But how do you set them up?

Organizing book signings, readings, and public appearances is one of the most important parts of a successful marketing campaign.

A book signing or reading is a bookstore event that features you and your latest book. This is your opportunity to meet potential buyers face to face. Plus it adds a personal touch to your promotion efforts. Many customers may feel more motivated to purchase a copy of your book if they hear it explained or read from your point of view. And the opportunity to get a copy signed by the author doesn’t hurt, either!

Independent book stores and larger chain retailers both organize book signings. Your chances for finalizing an appearance are greater with the independents. They have to compete with larger chains and are therefore more willing to support local authors. In order to pinpoint potential book stores, check your local newspapers or see if book retailers in your area offer a calendar of events or post upcoming events on a public bulletin board.

By asking around for the owner of the store or the communications manager you can typically find the appropriate person with whom to discuss your event. In many cases, both the large and small retailers will have their events planned weeks or even months in advance. Plan early.

When you have a list of people and/or stores you plan on contacting, prepare your pitch. Have a small script that outlines what your book is about and why people would be interested in meeting you or reading the book. The store manager or PR person will most likely ask. If your subject matter is timely, all the better! Remember, this is the point during which the store manager or book buyer will be screening your presentation skills, either over the phone or in person. If they are not captivated by your presentation, they will have very little faith in your ability to captivate a crowd. Be extroverted and dynamic.

It also helps to be concise. Understand that these are busy people. You want to sell them on your event fast. Have your press release and/or sell sheet ready. It’s helpful in case they ask for a copy or if they ask about specific information about the book. They may want to know the retail price, the retail margin, and the ISBN number immediately so they can order a review copy themselves prior to deciding. Advise them of the publication date after which they can order the book wholesale through the Ingram or Baker & Taylor databases, or retail from your own webpage address. Provide them with your URL. They might be impressed enough by your initial marketing initiatives to go forward with the book signing.

Offer to help them with promotion. Especially if you’re targeting smaller book stores, they will be more interested in offering to host an event if they know you will be absorbing some of the burden of marketing it. Tell them all your friends and family will be attending the event (and then make sure to invite your friends and family!), and if it’s within the scope of your marketing budget, offer to advertise in the local paper at your expense. Remember, the easier it is for the book store, the more likely they’ll say yes.

Follow-up with prospective book stores who have not confirmed dates. Selling yourself and your book is a number’s game, and as any salesperson will tell you, the amount of contact is directly proportionate to the amount of sales. So be persistent without being annoying. If, after three or four unsuccessful attempts with a particular store or person, move on to another prospect.

What’s For Dinner?

May 15th, 2008 by SurursBlog3403

How many times have heard that or asked that or asked yourself the same question? If you’re anything like me, I got so tired of making the same old things week after week. Cooking became a chore. I was as bored with my cooking as my family was. Cooking was not on my list of favorite things to do.

Going out for dinner is always nice. But boy, has it become expensive! I love to eat good food, but just hated to cook it. I also got tired of spending a fortune for it. That was when I found the most amazing cook book. Now my kids are even chipping in with the cooking. They can’t wait to taste the mouth watering food we make. We all get together to try new recipes. It’s a great way for my kids to learn how to cook, too.

Have you ever wondered how to make Kentucky Fried Chicken? Now be honest, haven’t you always wondered what their secret recipe is? I sure have. Now I know. How about Apple Bee’s Baby back Ribs? Or Olive Garden’s Fettuccine Alfredo with bread sticks? One of my favorites is Red lobster’s Shrimp Diablo. We used to make a couple of trips a week at least, to Taco Bell. Now we make their Nachos and Buurito Supremes ourselves. We never run out of new recipes to make and they taste just like they do in the restaurants. The only difference is, we are having much more fun making them ourselves and saving a bundle of money to boot!

If you would like to learn how to cook amazing dishes at a fraction of the cost, it’s not that hard to do at all. Your friends and family will think you are the best cook ever. Believe me, I know. All of my friends ask me for the recipes and say their husbands are amazed with my cooking. They want me to be their cook. I just tell them their wives can cook the same foods just as easy as I can. Or, if you want to, you can keep your recipe book a secret and have everyone totally amazed with your cooking. Cooking can become a great hobby instead of a drag.

Red Hot Book Sales On The Internet

May 15th, 2008 by SurursBlog3403

It’s no secret that the ‘Net keeps changing all the time; what is a secret to many is how to make the most of the ‘Net and sell some books. When it comes down to it, that’s the #1 focus of publishers and authors alike. The ‘Net has become the place to go for book sales, but it’s more than just having your book listed on Amazon.com http://Amazon.com or your own website, it’s about getting people to know about it. With millions of websites coming online every month, that task is getting tougher and tougher each day.

It seems like only yesterday we were telling you that reciprocal linking was *the* way to go to get traffic. What is reciprocal linking? Well, it’s where you give a link on your site to someone else and they give one to you. This tactic may have worked in 2006 but it’s no longer a good idea. Why? Because search engines are now looking at high quality one-way (inbound) links. Says Susan Gilbert, AME’s SEO expert: Google has declared 2007 as the year of the incoming link - high quality, one-way links. Now more than ever, it is important to create a long term site building presence that focuses on the community aspect of the World Wide Web.

A backlink is a link which directs others towards your site. They are sometimes referred to as inbound links. These are links that go from another website to your website. But it’s more than just that, it’s also about having backlinks that matter. If you haven’t done a vanity search on yourself in a while try this: Google your name and see what sites come up (when you Google your name use the + sign between your first and last name for a more accurate search). Now take a quick peek at the list of sites and see how they rank according to Google, are they on the 20th page of a Google search or are they on the 1st or 2nd page? These are all indicators of high quality, high traffic sites. Now look at the sites that are in your topic/market. Ideally, you want every site linking to you to be your market. That’s the definition of a high quality, high traffic site.

The number of backlinks that your site has is an indication of how popular or important it is according to the major search engines. Backlinks are important for SEO, because search engines, such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN, will give more credit to those sites with a good number of quality backlinks. They will then consider these sites more relevant than others in the results pages of a search query.

Most search engines will want websites to have a level playing field, and so will more often than not look for natural links that have been built slowly over time. Link farms or companies that promise hundreds of backlinks will do nothing but get your site delisted by the search engines. Once this happens, it could take months, and even years to get it back online. (Delisting means that the site no longer comes up in search engines).

Although it can be fairly easy to manipulate the links on a web page in order to achieve a higher ranking, it is a lot harder to influence a search engine with external backlinks from another site. This is why these feature so highly in a search engine’s algorithm.

According to research we’ve done, there are a number of ways in which you can get additional backlinks to your website.

1. Reciprocal Linking.

This is where you link to another site that provides the same service or product as you and they in turn have a link to your site on theirs. While very popular in the past, this exchange of links is not as valuable as one-way links.

2. Site Submissions.

Submit links for your site to directories which allow free submissions, or if you can afford it, some paid directories. There are many sites which offer a service where you can submit your site details to numerous sites. Plus, if you want, you can always create your own directory of similar websites.

3. Blogging.

This has now become an integral part of the Internet, and is one of the most effective ways of linking.

You either have the choice of placing a few words of comments on to someone else’s blog, or you may want to link to them from your own blog. However, with so many people creating blogs and wanting to link to each other’s blogs, this can be extremely time-consuming.

4. Articles.

This is another way of getting great backlinks. It’s vital that any articles you write are on the subject, informative and thorough in relation to your site.

Quality articles published on article sites are a great way of getting even more backlinks to your site.

Always include a resource box at the end, as this will include that all important backlink to your site. This resource box should also include a short biography regarding you and your site.

5. Social Bookmarking.

This is a way to record your favorite sites online at the various social bookmarking sites, and that way the search engine spiders pick up your bookmarks and follow these backlinks to your websites.

6. Creating Feeder Sites.

Adding a MySpace or Squidoo page with links back to your website is extremely beneficial and expands your online presence at the same time.

The above are just a few ways that you can get backlinks to your websites to help them rank more highly in the search engines and attract more traffic. Using these techniques you should see an increase in the volume of traffic arriving at your website.

The important thing is to take action today. Things are getting more and more competitive, with thousands of websites coming online every day. If you want to succeed online (and everyone needs to be online), you’ll want to get started now.

Increasing ranking and traffic are going to be our continued focus in the months and weeks to come. As offline markets become more populated and less accessible, the Internet is the place to go to sell your book.

Leonardo da Vinci: Leonardo’s Animals Part 2 (of 2)

May 14th, 2008 by SurursBlog3403

Leonardo is known to have kept horses, along with dogs, cats and other animals. Although numerous animal studies are found throughout Leonardo’s drawings, his most frequent animal sketches are of horses. His renderings are extremely detailed and life-like. He infused his renditions of animals with nobility - a characteristic that stemmed from his deep love and respect for the animals he sketched and painted.

In the mid 1480s, Leonardo moved from Florence to Milan. At that time, Milan was one of the most powerful city-states in Northern Italy. And, it’s Duke, Ludovico Sforza, commissioned Leonardo to make a horse like no other to honor the Duke’s father, Francesco Sforzo. It was to be a massive, bronze-cast statue - the largest statue ever built, standing 24 feet high.

Leonardo made a great number of preparatory drawings for his Sforza Horse. His notebooks are filled with proportional studies of horses. There are detailed diagrams of the anatomy of horses, along with notes on how to cast it, and it would weigh 80 tons once complete! Leonardo made the clay model to scale, but the bronze horse was not to be. In 1499, the French army threatened an attack. The metal intended for the Sforza Horse would be needed to make canons. Leonardo left Milan before the French Army marched on the city. Seeing the massive clay horse, the French soldiers could not resist using it for target practice.Thereafter it was reduced to rubble. Leonardo became despondent and at the same time, vowed to one day see his horse completely built.

Much has been written throughout history about the Horse that Never Was . Five hundred years after the destruction of the clay model, based on the notes and sketches of Leonardo, the 24-foot bronze horse was cast. In fact, two full-scale statues were completed. One stands in Michigan, while the other was given as a gift to the City of Milan. United Airline Pilot Charles Dent made it happen. Upon seeing the original sketches that had been rediscovered in Spain, he started the process of raising the necessary funds to build the full-scale, bronze horse. His plan was to give it as a gift to the Italians from the Americans. Being something of a sculptor himself, he built a clay model of the horse to Leonardo’s specifications. And, although Charles Dent died in 1994, his dream lived on and over four-million dollars was raised. On September 10th, 1999, exactly 500 years after the French destroyed Leonardo’s clay model, the bronze statue was unveiled in Milan. On October 7th, 1999, a second casting of the horse was unveiled in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This second horse is known as the American Horse.

Along with his sudies of mammals, Leonardo made hundreds of bird sketches. In the medieval publication Lives of Artists, Giorgio Vasari tells how Leonardo would go to the markets and buy caged birds, and then open their cages, giving them back their freedom.(1) Leonardo studied the motion of their wings in flight as well as their anatomy and physiology. He wrote down and illustrated his own theories on the flight of birds and was inspired to make several sketches of mechanical flying machines. He wrote a treatise called Codex on The Flight of Birds in which he made diagrams of a helical wing, beating wings, a parachute, and bat wings. Later he realized the problems with human-powered propulsion and began making notes and diagrams of gliders. He also designed a machine based on a helical screw that was 32 or 33 feet in diameter.(2) It was supposed to lift off and fly as the blade rotated, resembling a modern-day helicopter.

Leonardo’s passionate interest in studying animals was unique for his time. He studied and observed animals, and sketched and painted them with grace and realism. Other Renaissance artists like Michelangelo (1475-1564) and Raphael (1483-1520), who focused more on the humanity and divinity in art, did not include animals in their works to the extent as Leonardo did.(3) Without neglecting the Divine in Humanity, Leonardo above all other Renaissance artists, elevated all of nature and made it part of the Divine.

Wedding Anniversary Gift - A Family Portrait In Oil

May 14th, 2008 by SurursBlog3403

A wedding anniversary gift, such as family oil portrait, does not have to wait until the married couple is well advanced in years. Instead, a family portrait can be given at any point in the marriage, even as a 10th anniversary gift or a 20th anniversary gift. The oil painting portrait represents a moment in time that will invoke precious memories for years to come.

What to Include in the Family Portrait

For a couple that is celebrating a 10th anniversary or a 20th anniversary, you may want to consider an oil painting portrait that features the couple themselves, perhaps taken from a favorite snapshot or wedding photo. For a 30th wedding anniversary gift or a 40th wedding anniversary gift, you may want to include more family members in the portrait to depict how the family has grown.

Children and grandchildren can be included in the wedding anniversary gift as a celebration of how far the family has come over the years. Another idea would be to use a picture taken on the couple’s wedding day ad have that transformed into an oil painting from the photo.

Benefits of a Family Portrait

Some of the benefits of giving a family portrait in oil as a wedding anniversary gift are that is commemorates the milestones a family has walked through to get as far as they have. Also, because a family portrait in oil is a unique gift, you can be sure no one else will be giving the same thing. It takes a lot to pull a family together for a family portrait, especially if you come from a large family, however, keep in mind that the hassle of organizing and pulling it all together will be well worth the effort when the finish product is presented to the people whose wedding anniversary you are celebrating.

An oil painting is an important family heirloom that can be passed down through the generations as a commemoration of how the family began and it will always bring to mind the special occasion of the anniversary celebration on which it was given.

The Family Portrait Tradition

Traditionally, family members would pose for hours on end over a span of days or weeks while an artist rendered their likeness in an oil painting portrait. This is a very time consuming process and is not generally conducive to the busy schedules of modern families. One way to have the benefit of the canvas oil painting without the long hours of posing is to have an oil painting made from a photo.

A wedding anniversary gift should be special and should reflect the family unit that was formed from the marriage union of the couple. An oil painting portrait, such as a family oil painting is a unique gift and a way to express the gratitude, pride and respect that you feel for how far the couple as come and what they have accomplished in the lives and in their marriage.

A family portrait in oil can be given by friends or family members, such as children or grandchildren or even siblings and parents. It’s a timeless and classic wedding anniversary gift that is not confined to a certain point in time.

Allan Holder is the founder and owner of www.mypicturepainter.com http://www.mypicturepainter.com which is a site dedicated to the revival of the lost art of portrait painting. In today’s fast paced world, sitting for a portrait painting is simply not practical. We allows the user to submit a photo to our network of talented artists who will paint a personal oil painting from your photo.

Freelancing as A Career Option

May 13th, 2008 by SurursBlog3403

Home bound workers can either consider telecommuting or freelancing. While telecommuting may keep you out of your home for some hours a week, online freelancing is a good way to make money if you are forced to stay at home. For example, homemakers, part-time students, retired folk, or others who wish to supplement their income from jobs or businesses can all consider freelancing.

Freelance Skill Sets

You can start earning as a freelancer as long as you have skills that someone is willing to pay for. For example, writers, web designers, photographers, and programmers can earn a substantial income by creating articles, websites, portfolios and software from home. The Internet is a hot and viable source of income for freelancers from around the world. Your target customers can be webmasters, online business owners, blog owners etc. For example, blogs and wikis are hot sources of income for freelance writers nowadays, and there’s no reason why you can’t tap into this market if you possess good writing skills.

Freelance Income

On the flip, your income may fluctuate from one month to another. As with all businesses, freelancing does not guarantee a stable paycheck at the end of the month. So keep a small kitty reserve for dry days or have another source of income for which you can work part-time. Be prepared to accept boring, low-level work initially just to keep the cash flow strong. Once you get a good reputation for providing original, high-quality work at reasonable price, then clients will flock to you.

Freelance Advantages

Probably the best thing about freelancing is that you get to work at your pace, in your own hours, from home, and be your own boss. That means, your shop is open 24×7. And as long as you provide good quality work and meet deadlines, your clients will remain happy with you.

In order to be visible, you also need to be seen and heard in the right places, like forums, blogs, online groups, etc. Spend time everyday to visit such sites because they are invaluable repository of freelance gigs and email addresses of prospects. Alternatively you can sign up with freelance sites like Elance.com, GetAFreelancer.com and Scriptlance.com where you can start bidding on projects and snag a few as early as today!

To conclude, a freelance business is one of the best ways to earn money from home and to work for your own self. If you’ve got a fair amount of time on your hands, maybe you too should consider freelancing as your full-time career alternative or supplementary income source.

(Hint: While you can find plenty of lucrative freelance assignments on Elance, the other sites mentioned above generally tend to feature lesser-paid projects. However, if you’re just starting out as a freelancer, the competition on Elance can prove to be really tough. So you might want to first try GAF and Scriptlance to build up your portfolio, and then go for Elance.)

Answering Common Questions About Sleep Apnea

May 12th, 2008 by SurursBlog3403

Sleep apnea is a common breathing condition that can range from mild to moderate to severe. It’s also a progressive disorder, which means that it gets worse with time.

Approximately twelve to twenty million people in the United States suffer from sleep apnea. Adult sleep apnea is as common across the globe as is adult onset diabetes. More men suffer from it than women. In addition, it’s more common in those who are overweight and have a tendency toward loud, habitual snoring. According to The National Commission on Sleep Disorders Research, approximately 38,000 individuals die annually as a result of cardiovascular problems relating in one way or another to sleep apnea.

What Is Sleep Apnea?

Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder differentiated by pauses in breathing during sleep. These pauses can cover anywhere from ten to sixty seconds at a time. In more serious cases, the breathing lapses can be even longer. These pauses or apnea events can occur as often as three hundred to four hundred times per night. Some people wake up during these episodes while others do not.

What Are The Different Types of Sleep Apnea?

There are three types of sleep apnea - obstructive, central and mixed. Obstructive sleep apnea is the most common, afflicting nine out of ten individuals who suffer from the disorder. In the case of obstructive sleep apena, an obstruction is blocking the trachea (or wind pipe) from allowing air in and out of the lungs. Other causes of the obstruction include the possibility of too much fatty tissue in the area of the throat or that the throat muscles are too relaxed. The second type, central sleep apnea, results from the brain having crossed signals about normal breathing patterns. In this case the muscles you use to breathe don’t get the ‘go-ahead’ signal from the brain. Either the brain doesn’t send the signal, or the signal gets interrupted. This form is extremely rare. The third and final type, mixed sleep apnea, is a combination of the other two, though it generally has more in common with obstructive sleep apnea.

How Do I Know For Sure If I Have Sleep Apnea?

There are a number of initial symptoms that should alert you to the possibility of sleep apnea. These include loud snoring, cessation of breathing during the night, and extreme tiredness during the day. If you exhibit any of these symptoms, your doctor can send you for a special sleep-recording test known as a polysomnography which can diagnosis the disorder.

Is Sleep Apnea Dangerous And/Or Life Threatening?

If left untreated sleep apnea can lead to more serious health problems such as high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke. The chances of having a car accident or a work-related accident are also increased for those suffering from sleep apnea.

Is There Anything That Can Be Done To Improve My Sleep Apnea?

Initially, making lifestyle changes can go a long way in preventing sleep apnea from growing worse. These changes can include losing weight, quitting smoking, limiting your use of alcohol four hours before bedtime, not using sleeping pills or sedatives, and sleeping on your side instead of on your back.

David Silva is webmaster for Sleep Apnea Insights ( sleepapneainsights.com http://sleepapneainsights.com ), a website dedicated to the dissemination of information about sleep apnea, its various forms, its treatments, CPAP, and more.

When Does Copyright Expire On My Music?

May 12th, 2008 by SurursBlog3403

The expiration date on your copyrighted music isn’t something you have to worry about, at least not in your lifetime. The music that you’ve written is copyrighted the moment you’ve put it onto paper or recorded it. The reason you don’t have to worry about expiration is because the music is protected until 70 years after the death of the author. In the case of your music, that author would be you.

This rule about copyright music expiration was first put into place so that the families and heirs of an author could still earn royalties even after his or her death. Ultimately this means that if you’ve taken the steps to copyright your music and have registered the copyright, then your music will be protected throughout your lifetime until 70 years after you or the last surviving author (assuming a collaboration) is deceased.

Copyright music expiration is not something you should make a primary concern unless you are having issues of someone respecting and/or honoring your copyright at the moment. You should take comfort in the fact that as long as you are alive you are the only one who can assign your copyright to another person; and as long as you haven’t given up your ownership of the music it still belongs to you.

This is different, however, if your copyrighted music was work “made for hire.” If that is the case then you cannot have ownership of the music, as it never legally belonged to you, but the person or entity who hired you to produce the music. Works made for hire have different copyright music expiration than those owned by the creator. With works made for hire, the copyrights are in effect for 95 years from the original publication date or for 120 years from the creation of the work, whichever of the two is shorter.
